Pricing & Usage

RRSMB software is billed on AWS Marketplace as hourly consumption. You pay only for Windows SMB shares connected to EFS, plus mounted EFS storage — not per cluster node. Standard AWS EFS charges are billed separately by AWS.

🗂️
$0.10
per Windows SMB share connected to EFS / hour

Billed as ShareHours — one unit per share on EFS each hour. Delete a share in the Admin UI to stop accruing for that share on the next hourly billing tick.

Amazon EFS
$0.00007
per mounted EFS GB-hour

Billed as ManagedStorageGBHours. Standard AWS EFS storage and access charges apply separately.

Pause & resume with zero software charges

Scale the Auto Scaling Group to 0 (or terminate the rrsmb nodes) to pause the appliance. While offline, RRSMB records SKIPPED_OFFLINE billing rows with quantity zero — no ShareHours or ManagedStorageGBHours accrue during paused periods.

Ideal for weekends, holidays, dev/test environments, or any time you do not need SMB service running. Resume by scaling the ASG back up; billing resumes only while the cluster is running.

This is separate from AWS EFS storage charges, which continue for data at rest in EFS regardless of appliance state — the same as any EFS workload.

Node count

Configurable from 1 to 4 nodes. One-node deployments are for evaluation and non-HA use; production HA should use two or more nodes across Availability Zones. Marketplace fees above apply per connected share and mounted storage — not per node.

Illustrative VDI example

A 500-user VDI estate with 10 TB on EFS (80% Infrequent Access) typically sees Roadrunner SMB software cost track weekly login demand rather than a provisioned peak — see the demand-following cost chart on the Product page. Many teams report 40–60% lower TCO vs. FSx for Windows at 10–50 TB VDI scale; your results depend on share count, access patterns, and AWS pricing.

Stop permanently

Delete the CloudFormation stack when finished evaluating or decommissioning. Software charges stop; your files remain in Amazon EFS in your account. Unsubscribe from the Marketplace listing if you no longer need the product.

Charges appear on your AWS bill under AWS Marketplace as hourly consumption.

Low-risk to try

Hourly metered billing on AWS Marketplace — run only the shares and storage you need. Scale to 0 to pause with zero software charges, or delete the stack when you are done.
