AWS® Marketplace deployment summary
Product: Roadrunner SMB™
Category: SMB3 gateway for Amazon EFS®
Deployment model: AWS Marketplace CloudFormation® deployment into your VPC
Capacity and availability
- Node count: Configurable 1–4 nodes at deploy time (
ClusterSize) and after deploy via Admin UI Cluster page (Customer Cluster Node Target slider + Apply). - 1-node use: Evaluation, trial, lab, and other non-HA scenarios.
- Multi-node use: High availability for production SMB workloads.
Launch and stacks
- Launch form: VPC ID + cluster node count only (Single-AZ or Dual-AZ delivery option).
- Two stacks: a parent stack (
RoadrunnerSMB-SingleAZ/RoadrunnerSMB-DualAZ) and a nested appliance stack (…-InnerStack-…). Subnets and image are auto-configured on the nested stack. - Cluster ID: fixed
rrsmb-prodfor DynamoDB® tables and cluster state (not the stack name). One appliance per AWS Region is supported today. - Find URLs: CloudFormation → parent stack → Outputs →
AFirstTimeSetupInstructions(one-click setup) orAdminUIUrl.
Access and integration
- Admin UI: HTTPS / port 443 using
AdminUIUrlor the link inAFirstTimeSetupInstructionson the parent stack Outputs tab (NLB in public subnets;AdminIngressCidrcontrols who can reach Admin HTTPS). Port 8888 is an internal target port on tasks; it is not the normal Marketplace customer access path. - SMB: TCP / port 445 using
NlbDnsNamefrom networks inSmbClientCidr(default VPC/private client ranges — not the public internet by default). - Authentication: Active Directory® integration (domain join, Kerberos/NTLM). Plan join and admin identities: Identity and permissions.
- Storage backend: Amazon EFS (shared file data and cluster coordination paths as provisioned by the stack).
Clustering and routing
- CTDB: Provides clustered Samba state coordination across nodes. Customer-facing routing, health-based traffic steering, and node failover are handled by AWS load balancing, ECS health checks, and Roadrunner SMB readiness/fencing — not customer-facing CTDB “floating IP” failover.
Updates
- Roadrunner SMB discovers newer approved releases via the product release manifest and Marketplace release ECR repository (stable channel). When automatic updates are enabled, a newly detected release is scheduled for the next local midnight after detection (Region-local timezone of the deployed AWS Region). Use Apply latest approved version on the Admin UI Software Update page to update immediately, or Defer to postpone by 24 hours. Rolling replacement preserves availability on multi-node deployments.
- Change control: Review release notes before allowing production updates when your organization requires it.
Support
- Support report: Generate and download a Support Report from the Admin UI and attach it to your support request (reports are not uploaded automatically).
